KING: Bob, Why did the government decided to authorize the publication of these cases? I know that the French government has done last year. Yet so far, governments have always been careful to keep these records secret, including the United States. So why change it now, Bob, you think?
BOB ROSAMOND, president of BUFORA: I really do not know. If you want to take it with cynicism, saying that this is a good PR move to show the world something like "Hey, you see, nothing to hide: Look, that's all our records on UFOs. " I do not know the reasons for the decision. Why now? I do not know.
KING: Peter Davenport, is what will begin to silence the eternal refractory?
PETER DAVENPORT: It remains a matter accused of heresy. I find interesting that the authorization to publish follow, a day almost, what the Vatican said yesterday about this. POPE: Well, that under the Access to Information (Freedom of Information Act) - and that is one reason why the Ministry of Defense has decided to publish . An increasing number of FOIA requests about UFOs are sent to the Ministry of Defense on this subject more than any other. The administrative burden of these requests, which must follow, has become so heavy that the government has said it was better to deliver all these records to the National Archives, so that people can be directed to those thereof.
But, of course, under the same Act, there are all kinds of exceptions and this is what the problem: personal information about witnesses, information classified as secret, for example, systems capacity military radars. And a poor officer is responsible for plunging into all this documentation - and there are tens of thousands of pages. It is a job truly overwhelming. So we decided to proceed in phases, a half-dozen cases per month, on three or four years. I realize that long. ROSAMOND: We have very substantial archive. There are 12,000 to 15,000 cases recorded some of which date back to 1925. It is a very extensive documentation, probably more than that provided by the Ministry.
KING: Peter, why is it has always been in the United States, and before that in Great Britain, a secret kept so well? What prevents the United States to spread what he knows?

KING: The actions of the British government could serve as an example in the USA?
HALT: I hope so obviously, but the situation there is quite different. POPE: Well, it is a report which is in the public domain for some time, but only to show you the kind of spectacular event that we receive, we have a sighting of a commercial airline pilot who saw two UFO whose length was about one mile. And this thing was captured by radar. There was an echo of the primary radar.
A few years ago, we had the case of a UFO that flew over two military bases in Britain, which was seen by many witnesses, police and military. One of the officers of the Air Force said that this thing was shaped triangle, it rose in a few seconds of a stationary position at speeds several times faster than a jet. And the person who told me is an officer in the Air Force has eight years of experience.

CALLER: Hi, Larry. I was wondering if these files contain data on life forms aliens, or is there as reports of flying objects unidentified?
KING: Good question. Bob Rosamond?
ROSAMOND: In our records, yes. We have gathered in the past many reports of supposed encounters with aliens, and experience with entities as well as possible abductions.
KING: Do you believe?
ROSAMOND: Our organization is strictly objective, so it can not be belief. Only the facts and evidence may lead to the conclusion as well.
KING: Peter, do you think that what happens in Britain could have an effect of openness in other places?
DAVENPORT: This is an encouraging sign, Larry. It could suggest that there is an ongoing process that we could deliver this information. Perhaps this is a way to prepare us for something, whose government is aware and would like to let us know. But this is only speculation. We repeat the same thing for 61 years, and it is still not in sight. So it is an encouraging sign. But I am waiting to see if the U.S. government makes that any response. It will be interesting to see if the Vatican has something else to say ..
KING: Do you think this reflects on behalf of national security?
DAVENPORT: It's hard to say. This is what everybody seems to think. Everybody said that the government does not disclose this information to the American public because he feared a movement of panic. Frankly, it seems not at all hold the road. I do not think people would start to panic. Watch cartoons from Saturday morning, 90% tell us about extraterrestrial life and spaceships, and so on. HALT: I strongly doubt. I think we went too far in the coverage of the phenomenon, and we will never know the end of the story.
KING: Never?
HALT: I'm not totally sure. If something strange came to land on Times Square and the White House lawn, I still say that we end up by knowledge.
KING: That would be brilliant. Nick Pope, we learned that the Pope's astronomer said today that extraterrestrials are part of God's creation. Does this surprise you? Is this something new for you?
POPE: Yes, it has had some impact here in England. I appreciate that this kind of statement occurring at about the same time. About the idea of coverage and conspiracies, I would add that if people expect that these records of the Ministry of Defense provide definitive proof of the existence of extraterrestrials, they will not be disappointed. But I think they will - whether believers or skeptics - elements that raise a number of very serious problems in terms of defense, national security and aviation safety.
